Dr Martin Luther King Jr Building
Royal Albert Dock, Liverpool

Benson Signs manufacture large format, printed banners to iconic building.

It was an honour to be asked to manufacture the large format banners that front the iconic building situated at the Royal Albert Dock, Liverpool.

The building itself was formerly used by Granada studios and the birthplace of modern day time television as we know it but now owned by National Museums Liverpool.

After planning permission was approved, the building including its external structural columns were surveyed by our team.

From previous experience and knowledge of the site we knew that fixings were not allowed to penetrate any of the building fabric therefore a specialist bracket was required and manufactured to suit. Adjustable bars spanning between mild steel ring clamps that were formed to the correct diameter, with rubber gaskets to prevent damage to the 175 year old stone pillars were manufactured. All steelwork was galvanised and finished in a marine grade primer and topcoat and all fixings were marine grade stainless steel.

The building itself situated next to the International Slavery Museum was opened to the public just for the day, for a series of events to commemorate and celebrate the 50th anniversary of Dr King’s now iconic speech.
